Measure screw threads by photo

Quick start

  1. Lay the screw on a plain, matte background next to a reference card — a credit/ID card or a full-size SD card.
  2. Capture a photo or pick one from your library, then choose which card you used so the scale is right.

Which reference cards work?

A standard credit or ID card (85.6 mm wide) or a full-size SD card (32 mm). Pick the matching one in the app — that's what sets the real-world scale.

It says "not confident" or shows a look-alike thread.

Usually it's lighting, angle, or too small a thread region. Lay the screw flat, fill the box with the threaded part, turn on the torch for even light, and measure again. A few standards are nearly identical in geometry — for example #10-32 and M5 — and the app flags those; confirm them against a physical thread gauge.

Does it do both metric and imperial?

Yes. ThreadGauge identifies the closest match across metric (M-series) and imperial (UNC/UNF) standards.

How does the unlock work?

Tips for the most accurate reading

Keep the screw and card flat in the same plane, use a plain matte background, light it evenly, and avoid glare and hard shadows across the threads.
